Week 12: Outlining, Using Research, and Articulating Your Ideas
Time to enter the conversation and map out your lit crit ideas
With your working title, topic proposal, and research more or less completed, it’s now time to really map out your ideas and begin laying out the framework for your conference paper.
Engaging in Conversations About Literature
As we’ve been discussing, all literary scholarship is part of a larger conversation. Now that you’ve been entering that conversation through research and reading, you’ll be mapping out what you want to contribute using the vehicle of your conference paper.
Your Prompt for Week 12
Use the scholarship we’ve read so far and any additional materials you may find to explore these questions. (And don’t forget to cite your sources! Substack has a very handy footnote tool just for that purpose.)
What ideas, themes, and issues have emerged from the literature you’ve read? How is it informed your ideas for your paper?
What techniques, methods, and/or strategies could you use to begin mapping and planning out your conference paper?
Let your writing and formatting reflect your personality and self-presentation, but also make sure your readership can follow along. And once again, be sure to cite!
After you post, don’t forget to read your peers’ posts and comment on at least two of them during the week.
